Nova Scotia Pharmacy Regulator is located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People, and we acknowledge them as the past, present, and future caretakers of this land.

We respect and honour the Peace and Friendship Treaties that were signed in this territory, setting the terms of coexistence between settlers and the Mi’kmaq people. These Treaties remain in place today.

We recognize our responsibility to uphold the Treaties in the spirit of Reconciliation and collaboration. We acknowledge the harms that have created and continue to create health inequities for Mi’kmaq People, and we commit to moving forward in partnership.

We recognize the histories, legacies and contributions of African Nova Scotians, a distinct people with connections to the original 52 land-based Black communities. African Nova Scotians have been a key part of enriching the culture and history of Mi’kma’ki for more than 400 years.

Mi’kma’ki includes all of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, part of New Brunswick, the Gaspé region of Quebec, part of Maine, and southwestern Newfoundland.

The Nova Scotia Pharmacy Regulator (NSPR) is seeking public representatives to join our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee. Your voice and lived experience matter – please consider putting your name forward.

ABOUT US

The NSPR regulates pharmacy practice in Nova Scotia under the Regulated Health Professions Act. We work on the public’s behalf to ensure that Nova Scotians receive safe, quality care from pharmacy professionals and the pharmacies where they work.

ABOUT THE EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION  ADVISORY COMMITTEE

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee provides advice to the NSPR Board, Standing Committees and Registrar. The Committee’s goal is to elevate the voices of equity-seeking groups to support the NSPR to ensure that Nova Scotians receive safe, quality pharmacy care and address health inequities that continue to impact the health and well-being of the Mi’kmaq and other Indigenous Peoples, African Nova Scotians, people of African descent, and other marginalized, racialized, underrepresented, and underserved groups and identities in Nova Scotia.

To ensure meaningful representation, at least 50% of the Committee will comprise individuals from equity-seeking populations, including Mi’kmaq and other Indigenous Peoples, African Nova Scotians, people of African descent, and other marginalized, racialized, underrepresented, and underserved groups and identities in Nova Scotia.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a member, you will offer insights on matters related to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, reconciliation, and anti-racism  to support all people in Nova Scotia to receive quality, culturally safe pharmacy care and support the NSPR in addressing health inequities.

The NSPR is pleased to provide honorariums for all committee members as per the NSPR Expense Reimbursement and Honorarium Policy.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking Nova Scotia residents committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and reconciliation and who are comfortable discussing systemic barriers, accessibility, reconciliation, and anti-racism. To broaden our perspectives, we strongly encourage applications from:

  • Mi’kmaq/Indigenous Peoples
  • People living with disabilities (the NSPR will make every reasonable effort to provide the accommodations you need to fully contribute)
  • Individuals navigating economic insecurity or homelessness
  • Seniors and students
  • Members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community
  • Newcomers to Canada
  • African Nova Scotians, and people of African descent

Applicants are encouraged to self-identify in their application.


COMMITMENT

Appointments are for a two-year term, with at least 2 virtual meetings (1.5 hours each)  per year. Committee members are required to review meeting materials in advance, actively participate in discussions, and adhere to NSPR conduct and confidentiality policies.

  • A brief statement outlining your interest in serving on the Committee.
